The new Surveillance Camera Code of Practice is an improved version of the code that was published in 2013, and is the first time the document has been amended in eight years. The code provides guidance on the use of camera systems that record or view images for surveillance purposes. CCTV cameras, for example, are included, along with automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) technologies, and any system that’s used to store or process the information obtained by those devices....

Officials noted in the blog post on February 16 about the new build that Microsoft is no longer planning to publicly note when it changes the branches (which have been codenamed using periodic element names for the past few years) that are used for particular builds. As officials said previously, the Dev Channel branch will be for testing all kinds of experimental features which may or may never be included as part of a future Windows release....

The Wall Street Journal, which is owned by News Corp, followed up on the filing with reporting that the attack was discovered on January 20. News Corp sent a letter about the attack to employees at the newspaper and the Dow Jones, the New York Post, the company’s UK news outlet and the News Corp headquarters. Mandiant vice president David Wong attributed the attack to actors allegedly based within China but did not provide any evidence for that assessment....

The Artificial Intelligence Risk Management Framework (AI RMF) will be a voluntary document that can be used by developers, evaluators and others as a way to “improve the trustworthiness of AI systems.” NIST noted that the request for input comes after Congress and the White House asked the organization to create a framework for AI. Deputy Commerce Secretary Don Graves said in a statement that the document “could make a critical difference in whether or not new AI technologies are competitive in the marketplace....

On Tuesday, Intel 471 published a report into PrivateLoader that examines cyberattacks making use of the loader since May 2021. The pay-per-install (PPI) malware service has been in the cybercrime field for a while, but it is unknown who is behind the malware’s development. Loaders are used to deploy additional payloads on a target machine. PrivateLoader is a variant that is offered to criminal customers on an installation basis, in which payment is made based on how many victims they manage to secure....

In a letter shared with the California Attorney General’s office and sent out on November 30, the organization said it identified suspicious activity in its computer network on October 17. “We immediately took our systems offline, notified law enforcement, and a third-party cybersecurity firm was engaged to assist in our investigation.
